Meet our Sommelier Carey Vanderborg

Graduating from State University of New York at Plattsburgh with a degree in Journalism in 2011, Carey spent a short time writing for a digital news publication before realizing his love of good food and wine would lead him to discover his true passion; wine.

Carey worked in multiple Bohlsen properties, working under well-seasoned talent while learning the ropes from the best at Bohlsen. At Prime, Carey has helped build an advanced Wine Program that includes 300 labels from both the Old and New World. With strengths in North American Reds and Italian Reds, as well as a strong number of Spanish varietals, Carey has helped craft a unique list that is represented by both classic producers as well as up-and- coming winemakers that are quickly making a name for themselves.

Carey continually expands on his wine education with trips to Napa, Sonoma and Oregon. In early 2017, he was invited to attend Oregon Pinot Camp, a total immersion program of wine making workshops, tastings and dinners. This fall, Carey has received an enrichment scholarship to attend the prestigious Somm Camp 2017; an extensive program focusing on winemaking and viticulture from some of the country’s top producers in Napa Valley and Sonoma County, furthering his knowledge about the world of wine and spirits.

In March 2015, Carey passed his Certified Sommelier Examination with the Court of Master Sommeliers and is currently studying for his Advanced Sommelier Examination.
